Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.

Ray
Thanks for this post, especially about the Maelstrom fan controller. I pre-ordered and also sent the link to some of my local buddies. . I just hope that we can connect unto the output side a powerstrip so we can use more than one fan (smaller ones). Personally i train inside a “sunroom” to simulate Kona and some of the “hot” courses and i typically use three fans (surrounding the bike and also the treadmill-2 fans). I previously tried the Headwind, but did not work for me. I asked the Maelstrom guy about this when i pre-ordered. I hope he pursues the idea. It’s certainly a “cool” idea (see what i did there).
Thanks again, Ray.
And link to maelstrom.me is the link to the item, not the project idea ;)
In theory you should be able to connect the “out” to a dumb power splitter : I’d try with something like this: link to lowes.com rather than a surge protector. His prototypes used a 1-to-3 cord.
Doh, good catch. Just corrected to the landing page versus the project idea blog page.
Ray, for the past week I’ve been chased around the Internet by Arofly ads. Do you have any intention of testing it? I really doubt that measuring changes in tire volume (speed of sound is too fast for it to be measuring anything else) leads to a power measurement, but I’m willing to be shown otherwise.
Paul, He mentioned it way back in March 2017 and basically said back then that it was fundamentally broken. I don’t believe anything’s changed since…
Yeah, I haven’t played with it much since then. So I can’t say for sure, but I haven’t see much elsewhere that indicates it’s all that accurate.
I’d choose to name your podcast as ‘DC Rainmaker Show’ and then put your guests name. That way if you don’t have a guest, or GP Llama finally gets banned, you won’t have to do any major adjustments.
Your brand is DC Rainmaker, use to your advantage…
WHAT AN AWESOME SUGGESTION! (not)
not very nice for shane tho, even tho ray has more marketting power, shay does run that podcast for most of it,
I see the show as two equals – hence my desire to see a name change to reflect that. We each have our own strengths and topic areas, and I think we’ll continue to find our groove over time.
Currently Shane acts as a bit of the intro/host type personality, as it seems to fit the bill thus far in making the transition from Ben where he performed that role. Doesn’t mean it’s always going to be that way.
Antipodes sport tech podcast? Australia and Amsterdam aren’t exactly antipodal, but maybe close enough (apologies to New Zealand)?
I finally get banned? From the Internet? There’s a few companies who’d like to see that I’m sure… though all faults of their own.
