Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
If you’re skiing (or snowboarding) in the US, be prepared to pay through your nose for a group lesson at a big resort (like Stowe), or for a day pass at one of the chic resorts (like Vail).
Utah, Idaho and New England overall are cheaper for snowsports (Stowe is part of Vail resorts, so their pricing is way higher than other area resorts).
Vail Resorts uses an airline-style pricing strategy: if you plan ahead, it can be (somewhat) affordable, but if you show up at the last second, they assume you are not price-sensitive (and test that hypothesis to the absolute limit). Last time I went to Vail, it was cheaper for me to buy a season ticket in November beforehand than buying a ticket to cover 6 days of skiing once I got these.
See you again at the CIQ Developer Summit in a few weeks.
Looking forward to it!
Podcast isn’t showing up on Google play music here in the UK… Maybe podcasts aren’t supported here?! :(
Hmm, that’s odd.
Though, when I signed up for that it noted that I had to physically be in the US and two other countries I didn’t pay attention to, to create the podcast. but that once created it could be accessed from anywhere. I just used a VPN instead.
I’ll need to poke and see what that’s about.
I’m in Australia and we can’t see podcasts in Google Play (not supported) but if you use the Google Podcasts app it shows up there.
Yep – got it on the podcast app. Thanks for the tip!
How about – The GPRainmaker podcast ?? Or The DCLama podcast ?
(hardly genius, but the obvious suggestions!)
Thanks!
Out of curiosity, if you’re on an Android phone, and click the below #1 link, does it open in Google Podcasts automatically:
1) link to google.com
What about this #2 link:
2) link to search.app.goo.gl
I’ve gotta go figure out where the heck my Pixel is…
Great to have the podcast back – woot!
Hi Ray,
Link #1 works fine, see screenshot.
Cool. Did the second link automatically open it in Google Podcasts, or still brought you to another page?
Both open in the Google podcasts app for me (now that I’ve installed it!)
Great, thanks!
Link #2 sends you to Google Play services?!
Tested on a Pixel 2.
Hmm, odd. Ok, link #2 was supposed to open it up in the podcasts app directly. Will have to figure that one out.
Unfortunately, I will miss the conference, but will arrive later in the week for Garmin’s Land of Oz Marathon. Will you remain in Olathe for the race?
No, unfortunately I head to Sea Otter late on Thursday night – out in California.
Regarding Decathlon, the store is in Emeryville on the Oakland side of the Bay Bridge:

Looks like you need to RSVP to get in opening weekend (April 12-14):

Hmm…gonna be a haul from Monterrey for just a day trip. :(
Yeah, unless you are flying out of Oakland, not much sense in going there. Ironically, I think they are taking over the same space that (bankrupt) Sports Authority used to be in. I will take some pictures for you.
