Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!

„After that, no point in wasting any time. Up to the top of the hill I went and let her go. One way or another she’d find her way down:“

You used yaktrax in DC? We haven’t had real winter in a few years, but even when it’s bad, it’s only been that bad like once or twice in the last thirty years. I’m totally jealous of your frigid vacation! Looks like a blast
Definitely. Though, we had some much colder winters back then, than now: link to dcrainmaker.com
Ray, I’m sure you know this already, but others may not. One solid way to get your kids skiing is to take them ice skating. If you can skate, you can ski, and in most cities skating rinks and skating lessons are closer and cheaper than ski hills and ski lessons. Good luck with your two!

Alt+0176 is Unicode of degrees ;)
And the picture of P1 standing with her skis is the cutest picture ever!
I wish my kid was into downhill (I don’t alpine ski either), but she does like Nordic skiing.
I thought everyone new about the “alt 0176” although in my world “alt 0181” comes in handy a lot too…
My kid loves “Moose!”. Mostly he likes to pretend eat the carrots… And the “whapping” part.
Looks like a fun trip.
Merry Christmas
Thank you for sharing your adventure to the artic circle. Did you use a tour company?
Making plans to travel there next year.
Mary
Our tour company was Brad and his wife! :)
Nah, they did all the research and we just mostly followed along. Honestly though, it’s pretty straight forward, there’s really only so many things to do in the city once you get there. And almost all of them are listed on the town’s main tourism site. So from there it’s just deciding which frozen thing you want to do. With a rental car it’s easy to get around (and cheap, btw).
I was not aware we have any polar bears in Finland. :o
Beautiful family and a lot of amazing pics. Merry Christmas Ray.
Hi Ray,
I am currently in Rovaniemi and flying on the 26th, so I can pick up your GoPro batteries.
I don’t have a GoPro but I live in The Hague so I can drop by and return them to you :)
Let me know!
Christos
Awesome – thanks Christos – that’d be amazing if possible!
Just shot you an e-mail.
Hey Ray
A suggestion for skiing with kids: if you can find them, ski-blades are awesome to wear when skiing with your kids, especially when you’re holding on to them almost all the time. It makes it so much easier to maneuver than regular skiis!
I think that’s “Poma” not “Palma” lift.
