Long mounta I n bike rides with my wife this weekend!
I’ll be doing a 90 trainer workout on this Saturday and then a 90 minute run on the treadmill Sunday.
Among the usual training runs, I’ll throw in a Christmas eve 10 miler to check out the Christmas light displays in the area.
5x running per week for my first Marathon training…. could use a watch for that instead of lugging aroud my phone!

Santa Speedo Run
The Race for the Lights 5K in Oshkosh, WI. It’s a family affair. I’m walking it with my son and my daughter, husband and father-in-law are running it. You run to Menominee Park in Oshkosh and run through the Celebration of Lights in Menominee Park. Very pretty!
Done with races for the year. Continuing my half training and pacing my girlfriend on her 5k training run tomorrow.

Saturdays workout this week will be a 90 min run on the Edinburg gap where the Old Dominion 100 is run. I am wearing a ton of Blaze Orange.
BT: HIM intervals. Warm up 20-30 minutes. Then complete 4 x 20 minute intervals at HR/Power zone 3 (5 minute recoveries). Aero position. Refuel as you will do in race.
Followed by a 40 min Lydiard

Planning my first 30-degree(ish) 10k for next weekend. Not used to running in the legitimate cold (with snow and ice on the roads), so this will be a challenge!
2 hour running workout early on sunday morning ( if my 3 children will have a quiet night…. so that I can sleep too):

No racing scheduled for the remainder of the year, though I’m probably going to do a Cyclocross race on January 3rd. Plenty of suffering on the horizon though: Tomorrow is a coach-ordered 20 minute threshold power test on the trainer, guided by those oh-so-gentle souls at TrainerRoad and The Sufferfest.
Ironman 70.2 Dublin in August after a baby due date Mid-March! Wish me luck…

Christmas Celebration Workout:
-25 mile bike ride (to celebrate the 25th) before the family wakes up.
-10k off the bike to work off the eggnog from the night before.
-12 oz of eggnog while family opens presents and celebrates (because I earned it).
-Biiiig lunch with family (Turkey and stuffing repeats).
-Rest interval.
-Either a small bike ride or quick run after the sun goes down to play with any new toys :)
A simulation of a half-marathon at a faster that usual pace
Frozen Fools 50k tomorrow morning at 7:00am. 31.2 miles on the Appalachian Trail, first 6 miles uphill, lots of roots and rocks. It is going to be cold and raining all day and yet I am looking forward to it. Must be a glutton for punishment!

This off season is devoted to body composition and weight loss. My next workouts are AM fasted rowing for between 5 and 10K and afternoon weightlifting. Its not glamorous, but being “that larger guy who runs OK” is getting old!
Simple 10k race pace run to see how I am shaping up for a half.
I’ll complete my favorite ride in SoCal: from home (West LA) to Santa Monica, up PCH to Topanga Canyon, then up Fernwood Canyon and Tuna Canyon, back down Old Topanga/Topanga Canyon and home. About 95km/1,500m.

No races scheduled
But two times a week in the pool. ~1hour/3500 on tuesday and ~35min/~2000m on sundays. Inbetween some indoor cycling on my kettler ergometer with kettler world tour – so i can race (get beaten) by som real people on sone “real” rides (Twice a week ~1hour rides each time) I’ve also just gotten a kettler ergometer cross trainer so will add that to. The weather outside is just to miserable to outdoor training (dark, wet and just above freezing)
I live in the south, so I finally get to bust the tights out for some cold morning runs this week.
First run since completing my first ultra marathon and birth of first child. Really tired so probably just a 5k park run on Saturday morning!
