The Because It’s Friday $500 Gadget Giveaway!

DSC_9991

Today is Friday – you made it to the end of the week. But more importantly, today is also Australia Day. I only know that because I’m in Australia, and the beaches are more crowded than the starting line of a marathon (still, I pretended to workout and went for a short swim).  Thus, it seems reason enough to give away some gadget goodness.  But fear not, I won’t be restricting this to those in Australia, or any other country.  Anyone, anywhere on earth, is welcome to join as always.

Somehow it’s been far too long since we’ve last done a giveaway.  I seriously don’t know how, because I talk about it almost every month with the Clever Training crew, and then somehow it slips off my radar.  Perhaps we just need more holidays to have faux reasons for me to give stuff away.

The winner will get a $500 credit to CleverTraining.com, my most excellent partner in this giveaway crime.  By supporting the site through Clever Training you also can save 10% on almost anything they sell (or get points instead).  If you win, you can use that credit for anything from the GoPro Hero6 Black, to a Suunto Spartan Ultra, to a random pair of socks, to the Garmin Vector 3 power meter, or heck, even towards a new trainer.  Whatever floats your boat (note: they don’t sell boats).  Also note, your credit is in US dollars, not Australian – otherwise you’d get less.  Nobody wants less.

How to enter:

Simply leave a short description of what product you’d get and why (but don’t worry, you can change your mind later if you win).

The reason you need a short description of ‘why’ is that if you just put a simple product name (I.e. F5), you’ll likely get caught up in my SPAM filters.  And nobody wants to be sandwiched between two pieces of SPAM.  Got all that?

Good luck!

The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, January 29th, 2018 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time.  Winner will be selected randomly.  One entry per person.  The selected product/products will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming they’re in stock.

Garmin Forerunner 935, would love to have something to track training with as I jump into the Triathlon world!

  2. Mike P

I would like to get the Garmin’s Forerunner 645

  3. benjamin

    definitely a power meter

  4. Ryan G

Would love to get a direct drive trainer. The Elite Direto sounds like a winner!

  5. Tommy Short

Thanks Ray! I’d go in for a Wahoo KICKR snap. My old trainer is getting end of life and taking a beating this year thanks to zwift!

  6. Christopher Lynch

I would try the wahoo bolt. I’ve been a garmin fan for a long time (2 edge and 3 watches), but I feel like they are getting lazy with the large market share they enjoy. So, I think it’s time to start trying some of the competition.

  7. Kirk R

I think a forerunner 645 and some accessories would be in my shopping list. Thanks!

  8. Becky

Well I do want a garmin footpod :). Maybe I’d just upgrade my entire garmin situation.

  9. Jeremy H

Thanks for the giveaway! Call me boring, but I’d probably use it to replace some old/worn out gear. New tire pump, shorts, jersey, etc.

  10. TijsDS

Hesitating between a power meter, smartrainer and a running watch… In the end, It comes down to choosing a favor sport.

  11. Rocketman

    I might pick a Garmin 935. I’m entering at 9:02am so I would pick a Garmin 902, but I don’t think there is one? So a 935 would be a good substitute.

  12. Edward

Been eyeing a Fenix 5 since it came out, even though my Fenix 3 works just fine.

  13. Dan Anacker

Garmin Forerunner 935 because I have been adding cycling to my running and am thinking about competing in a triathlon.

  14. Seth Revelle

Fenix 5x because it is time for an upgrade!

  15. David

Either the new Garmin music watch or a new trainer, either one would make borinf winter training a bit less boring.

  16. chicchirichii

Fenix 5X because my suunto spartan ultra doesn’t support worksout and I really need them !

  17. Jon A

After using my smart trainer all winter I can’t imagine not having power data year round, so i’d definitely get a stages power meter!

  18. JSN

It would be a tough decision. My Virb died so I really want a new action cam but then again I’d also like to have a new trainer.

  19. Nicolas F.

    That Vector 3!
Certainly a bad way to get motivated to spend more time on the bike, but as long as it works… and geeky stuff seems for a unknown reason to do just that on me:)

  20. Ryan Goldvine

The Rhythm24 is next on my list, but with $500 it would be tempting to upgrade my Fluid2 to a smart trainer, perhaps the Direto?

  21. I would be highly inclined to pick up a power meter. Been riding on a Tacx smart trainer this winter and having the power measurements are nice, could be a benefit to take it outside.

  22. Carla

Garmin FR 645M, long run + podcast = heaven

  23. Tim Rourk

Most likely either the Fenix 5 or Garmin 935. I’ve been using my 920 daily for a couple years now and it’s showing signs of wear…time for an upgrade!

  24. Brett M McCleary

Think I’d go with one of the GoPros. Would be fun to film runs when I travel and throw them all in a movie. Plus, VR with the Fusion would be awesome!!

  25. John H

Definitely toward a new power meter – gotta prepare for the outdoors!!

  26. Adler Teixeira

I’m looking for a power meter for a long time but didn’t make the decision to buy just yet. Looks like it will be either the Assioma or a Garmin pedals. A 500 incentive would help a lot.
    Thanks Ray.

  27. Valere

Garmin Vector 3 ! One PM four bikes. Thanks !

  28. Aaron Wiens

New Garmin Edge to replace my 705 that I have had forever.

  29. David Scannell

Thanks Ray, I’d use it for either the Magnus or Kickr Snap Trainers. Winters are just too cold and harsh in NH to ride( at least for my old bones) and I’m way out of shape every spring

  30. Tyler

    Definitely a trainer.

I’m not entirely sure which one, because I’ve never considered them remotely affordable.
But hey, $500 off sounds affordable.
And then I’d come back and read Ray’s trainer reviews in detail, to know which one to get.

    Yes, I’m sucking up.
Because I hear that has a small, but measurable, effect on random number generators.

  31. Jeff

I’d probably go with a new cycling computer. Shopping for free would be fun!

  32. jayson fagar

    i’d get myself a fenix 5s!

  33. Fabrizio

A new trainer, since the old one broke!

  34. Ivar Koster

I surely can use a Garmin Forerunner 935. My6 current watch has some cracks in it and I’m not sure it well last more than a couple of weeks.

  35. Glenn O

Much thanks for this offer DCR! Me…the wahoo elemnt bolt! thanks!

  36. I wil probably get a GoPro for my kids who want to become youtuber an do product testing !

  37. Erik

    Garmin Edge

  38. Kim Bo Jensen

I would get a fenix 5 or similar because my old 310XT is getting a bit worn out.

  39. Daniel Beaudry

I am getting Garmin Vector 3 power meter pedals… because not having them must be the only thing keeping me from greatness!

  40. Blake Sills

Garmin Vector 3 – because a new shiny toy is what I need to get back on the bike.

  41. Chris

ooh I’d definitely put it toward a power meter (probably Vector 3) – $500 would be a big help!

  42. Tom

Garmin Fenix 5x would be nice

  43. Peter Eidegren

I would buy the new Garmin 1030 with extra battery.

  44. Gareth Jones

Got to be the Vector 3’s please, because I really, really would like them! ;-)

  45. Bob

I would probably get the new Garmin Forerunner 645 Music. It’s shiny. I like shiny.

  46. Mark Hemker

I would either get a Fenix 5 or a power meter.

  47. Matt Guyatt

I’d get an Elite Direto to have a direct drive indoor trainer!

  48. Duncan McLaurin

If I won I would get the suunto spartan ultra to help with the ultra marathon races I’m training for this year.

  49. Tonny Madsen

I would love to get the Vector 3 – I have been looking at these for a while and just waits for a good occasion – like the Spring…

  50. Chalie

I’m aiming for a bike trainer to keep me in shape.

  51. AndyJ

I’d get a new direct drive smart trainer, I do about 10 hours a week on Zwift and my old Bushido is starting to die and I can’t really afford to replace it, I will have to however to maintain my sanity!

  52. matthew riegler

i’d get one of those ‘lumo run’ gait analysis thingies.

  53. Gareth Jones

Garmin vector 3 please, because i would really like them. ;-)

  54. Domas

My choise would be PowerTap P1

  55. Jake H

I’d go with the Garmin 935. Thanks for doing this!

  56. Marvin Kilgo

Great contest — I’d probably go for a Fenix 5X for some long adventures planned this summer.

  57. Scott Reinemann

I would most likely go for the GoPro Hero6 or another action camera, as I’ve been looking to record my rides for fun and safety in case something where to happen.

  58. TL@

I’d go for a powermeter, not sure which one. Probably a Quarq.

Why? Because more data is always better :D

  59. Spencer

I think it would have to be either put towards a new trainer. I’m currently training on a 5-year old Minoura mag trainer that sounds like a freight train! Something like the Snap, Magnus or Rampa would be sweet!

  60. Peter P

Fenix5, as it can do everything

  61. Chris

Hero Black 6, because i’m going to climb Mt. Lemmon and want to get that sweet nasty HDR footage.

  62. Matthias G.

Most likely a Vivoactive 3 for my wife as I’m happy with my FR935

  63. Shawn

I would get a Fenix 5. I’m still using a 910xt and it is getting a little old. It would be nice to have a watch that actually looks like a watch and that could sync to my phone.

  64. JB

I would get my own Garmin Forerunner 935, because my wife use mine…

  65. Joe

The Rhythm24 does sound pretty cool, and I am in need of a new HRM. Don’t know if I’d be able to wait until April though, so I’d have to find something else to spend part of it on now and then save the rest until the Rhythm 24 starts shipping.

  66. Alan

Hi DCR. Thanks for this. I’d definitely go for the GoPro Hero6 Black! I’ve wanted to have one of those ever since they got out, and my outdoor activity has only grown more intense and adventurous. I hope this time I’m for once the lucky one!

  67. Frank

A new garmin watch to replace my aging suunto

  68. Mike

A new watch to replace my ailing Polar V800

  69. Matthias

    Garmin Forerunner 935
    Most suitable watch for me.

  70. Nate

I would get on or the Suunto Traverse of some sort – been eyeing em for months without making a commitment.

  71. Matt Jackson

I’d get the Watteam Powerbeat (2 of them, in fact). It’s getting a bit boring switching my Stages every time I change bikes. It’d be nice to have L+R power too!

  72. Brian

Vector 3s to finally join the power training croud

  73. Blake Gentner

I would grab most of a Fenix 5 to replace my gently dying Fenix 3.

    Thanks!!!

  74. Dan Morrissey

Thanks! I would love love love a Garmin Vivoactive 3. Why? Asking these kind of muddling questions only get in the way of my enjoyment of all things tech that go on my wrist. The best “why” I’ve got is because I’m a rabid fanatic of having technical GPS related data on my wrist gathering data on all of my runs! And, it’s people like me that read/appreciate people like DCR, and satisfying that itch keeps the DCR train rolling. So, I guess I want this because I truly want to help you and your budding family DCR. See, it’s about me giving back!

  75. John

I would get a VA3, to replace my dead VAHR!

  76. Floris Van de Vijver

not sure, i convinced myself to start training for my very first marathon. i’ve always been a garmin fanboy, but i’m not thinking of switching to polar M400

  77. Jim Andrews

    Ray

Fantastic that you do this. The answer is simple for a keen runner:-

I would spend the money on a Garmin Forerunner 645 (non-music) and donate the rest to charity.

No, make that a 935 because the DCR Comparison-o-meter tells me that the 935 does more things. I live near a lake, and if it’s hot this summer might do some outdoor swimming.

No, the 645, it looks nicer. And it’s waterproof anyway.

No, the 935 has longer battery life.

No, the 645 is smaller, and I have never run for more than 16h. So, it’s a 645 for me.

But I might try to do a Bob Graham round one day, which will take me more than 20h. So make that a 935…..

Ignore all of that. If I win I will take your advice and spend it wisely on either the 645 or 935.

  78. Saif Z

I would probably get a Garmin FR645 Music.

  79. Vladimir

I would get myself an action camera for the family as we are active: going on runs together, snowboarding and travelling atround the world. A GoPro Hero is definitely on my wish list but somehow never gets purchased.

  80. AdamE

Go Pro Hero 6, since I have a set of Vector3s arriving imminently…

  81. Roberto de la Cabada

    I would definitely buy Garmin’s Forerunner 645!

  82. Shawn F

First thing I would get is the new Scosche armband, my Rhythm+ is getting pretty worn.

  83. Ville Kaskivirta

Garmin 935, my 920 is not working properly anymore.

  84. JoeriB

I’m using a basic Tacx Flow Smart right now, I would like something more advanced. Does it help to win if the message is very short but repeated a lot?

    WAHOO KICKR, WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKRWAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKR,WAHOO KICKRWAHOO KICKRWAHOO KICKR

    Thank you!

  85. Nir

A garmin edge would be lovely…

  86. I’d likely get the Hero 6 Black to replace my aging Hero 2. It’s a little long in the tooth at this point!

  87. Louis Matherne

Quarq power meter. Already have one but need another for my other bike. :-)

  88. Rob

I could use a Garmin Edge 1030 for my future extended bike touring adventures!

  89. Bruno Barros Queliconi

    Power Just Power
Garmin Vector 3S Pedal-Based Power Meters

  90. Tom Burgin

I would buy cats with it. FYI I don’t think it matters what you write, Ray is too busy being sunned to notice these shenanigans!

  91. George

Definitely a smart trainer of some sort. Probably Kickr Snap. I don’t trust people in cars. Smart phones and old people will be the death of me.

  92. Mike S.

I would get the Garmin 935 (aka Fenix 5P). I’m doing more swimming these days and want to drop the Apple Watch.

  93. zsolt

I’d buy a cycling computer. A type of Garmin Edge f.e.

  94. Jay Holbrook

I’d love a new GPS watch, or perhaps a new HRM/OHR strap!

  95. Nate Wach

The shopping list is long, but I would go for a CycleOps Magnus Smart Trainer to start.

  96. jessie

Always want a vector 3!! So I can finally have one bike with powermeters in both sides

  97. Bill B

I’d take the Assiomas. Been waiting for them to get in stock on CleverTraining for awhile now. Would save some time.

  98. Mark Louder

A Garmin Fenix 5 would be my first pick. Thanks!

  99. Mark

I’d struggle to choose between a new Fenix 5 (that I know I’d use all the time) & a smart trainer of some sorts (that I’d hope I’d use…).

  100. Eric Siebert

Garmin Vector 3!!! Bye bye pods!
