As of today, you can’t get the Wahoo Fitness ANT+ Bike Case. Well, can’t legally get them without breaking into either my house or the Wahoo Fitness headquarters at an ‘undisclosed location’. Otherwise, they aren’t available till January.
But I have two of them in my hands right now. One for test/review, and one two give away to you: My peeps.
Chip – one of the guys at Wahoo Fitness has offered to giveaway one device to ya’ll. Now normally I supply toys for giveaways out of my own pocket, but since this is 3-4 weeks before anyone else can get one – I figured I’d make an exception. Well, actually, I’d make an exception anytime it’s cool enough – I’m not a big guy on random rules. And this is cool enough.
In short, the Wahoo Fitness iPhone ANT+ Bike Case takes your existing iPhone device (3G, 3GS, 4), and protects it from that hideous tasting nutrition drink near your handlebars. But, more importantly – it includes an ANT+ sensor directly in the device, allowing you to integrate straight with everything from ANT+ Power Meters to ANT+ Cadence/Speed Sensors, and heart rate straps. There’s a gazillion apps out there for it now as well, which I’m sure you’ve seen me use from time to time. And before ya ask, it supports adding an external battery pack to help out the occasionally slim iPhone battery life. But, you can go over to their page to read all the marketing fluff – this is about giveaways.

Real neat. I order the Dahon iPhone4 case yesterday and hope to do a review on it. I like it but it doesn’t have the ability to use an ANT+ adapter as there is not enough room in the bottom of the case for it (although there is enough for a plug)

I’ve been following Wahoo for a while now and they have a great business model. Sell hardware and make our API available for developers. Unlike iBike, and the ethereal Pedalbrain, who are creating hardware that will only work with their software because of Apple’s API restrictions. Really looking forward to getting one of these.
One of the more interesting apps that supports the sensor is the EZ-BIKE app. – link to jamesabrannan.com
If you have a Mac, then this app adds a nice overlay application that shows speed/candence/HRM info on top of videos you are playing. Makes it pure awesomeness when suffering with the Sufferfest bike training videos -> link to thesufferfest.com or you can use it while you are on a dreadmill watching Desperate Housewives (kill me please!)
Anyway, to know how it looks like, just download the Userguide PDF. Not sure why the app developer decide to omit such an awesome screenshot.. hehe

Seems like is you are going to have a bulky case with the ANT+ sensor, you could have included a battery in the case. This triple role would really make it shine, A little more bulk for the added benefit of pretty much guaranteeing it would last through any ride……
I just finished making 100 dozen Christmas cookies. After eating these cookies I will need to get my ass on the bike. Hence this dandy device would be oh so helpful.

Came here yesterday because of your Wahoo Fitness first look. Looking forward to hearing more about your experience with it. I don’t bike much, anymore, but if I were to get this, it might actually motivate me.
The thing about ANT+ devices and apps, is that they really bridge the gap between geekness and fitness. Sure, there are many gadgets in the world of fitness. But this is about getting data on your own activities and doing something with it.
I was actually dreaming about something like this, back in 2004. It was mostly about getting your heart rate into a computer but, since the iPhone came out, it’s much neater a concept.
The issue I have with this case, though, is that my device is an iPod touch. I’m guessing the guess is too big for it. But if, by any chance, I do win it, I’ll find a way to make it work.
