Hot Deal: New Wahoo KICKR CORE 2 is $399 (with Zwift Cog or Cassette!)

There are nearly 150 deals listed right now in my sports tech massive deals tracker, which I’m updating near-hourly. However, this one on the KICKR CORE 2 (my just-published longer-term review last week) from Wahoo might be one of the best deals of the season. At least in terms of the very unscientific blend between how new a product is, and how much the discount is.

The KICKR CORE 2 came out just over two months ago in September, and is primarily a refresh of the electronics side. As a quick reminder, here’s the newness:

– Added WiFi connectivity (helps in certain environments, and auto downloads firmware updates)
– Added Race Mode (faster update rate)
– Added ‘Sensor Hub’, aka Bluetooth bridging, helpful for Apple TV users especially
– Added secure/bonded/encrypted Bluetooth pairing for EU security compliance (EU RED)
– Added new trainer LEDs for trainer/WiFi status
– Tweaked the legs to be flat-shaped (versus rounded previously)

The unit is offered in two flavors, one with the Zwift Cog/Click (specifically the new Click V2 dual-set buttons), and the second with an 11sp cassette. The underlying hardware is the same on both, and you can always swap to other cassettes (as I did in my review – to a 12sp cassette).

In any case, keeping this short, the KICKR CORE 2 is on sale for $399, regardless of which model you buy. Additionally, in the EU it’s 399EUR, and the UK £499.

Further, there are also deals on the Zwift Ride as a bundle, which is $999/999EUR/£999. The Zwift Ride is the smart-bike frame that attaches to it. Review here.

In terms of upgrading, the key thing you’d want to decide is whether or not you care about those electronic features above. Meaning, if you already have a KICKR CORE 1, you’re not going to ‘feel’ anything different here. It’s the same physical trainer as before. Likewise, if you have a KICKR CORE V4/V5/V6, those flywheels are greater. However, if you care about those electronics updates, then this is worth considering.

Wahoo KICKR CORE 2 with Zwift Cog/Click – $399
Wahoo KICKR CORE 2 with 11-speed cassette – $399

  2. Tried NY, CA and FL stores

Hey Ray, the Zwift Cog version is showing unavailable at REI in ‘murica. Got a referral link to another store with the same sale price?

    • Hello!

Ahh bummer, that didn’t last long. Hopefully, Wahoo updates its Amazon price soon. In any case, Competitive Cyclist above also carries it, and they’re a partner as wel.

      Appreciate the support!

Will check back on the Amazon pricing later and go through your affiliate link. Least I can do after you helped me choose this!

I’ve been holding out hope for the Elite Square (both your review and availability in the US) since I’ve got a Kickr v5 that’s not compatible with the Zwift Ride.

Feeling like it might be time to just bite the bullet and buy the Ride bundle and try to offload the v5. Thoughts?

    Hi Ray,
Do you know if this deal is being offered in Canada? Wahoo’s Canadian site and others like Amazon.ca are showing the regular price.
    Thanks!

Literally received my Elite Square on thursday (gls put it on the front porch of the house so it was out in the rain with only sparse protection from the overhang, as i was in a different part of the country (Denmark) that day) was cleaning the room before i started poking with it. But here in the EU there have been massive shortage (i ordered mine late september) – apparently Elite is using Shimano as a fullfillmentpartner, or manufacturer. (whether that was a lie from the retailer i have no idea, but the delivery was scheduled for monday, got a message that it was postponed to late december, and an hour later i got a message that the package was sent. – someone is certainly lying) – however the price incl danish VAT is actually quite competitive to something like Bike24.de. – have been busy and not even got to unpack the frame yet.

Has or lost Control w/ ANT+ power meter feature?

any details or thoughts on which one i should get? zwift cog vs cassette? I understand one is virtual gear shifting, and the other real shifting on the cassette? – but what would be the pros and cons of each? I use Rouvy, but looks like they would both work?
