Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
If Skydio really works as well as they show, I’d even think about that price. I want to see more independent tests, of course. I hope they get one to you soon.
Hi Ray,
For some reason, the past few weeks you most recent post (ie currently this one) isn’t appesring on the home page. This is happening on multiple windows 10 devices with the latest version of firefox. Screenshot attached is your homepage for me at the time of this comment, but it’s happened with several posts. Thought you might want to look into it.
Now I’ve commented it’s visible. Go figure…
Thanks, appreciate it. Troubleshooting a bit on what’s going on. :-/
I’ve been seeing this too, so I don’t think it’s just Ben’s setup.
Any specific device? The dev support team and I are trying to figure out what the pattern is, as it seems totally random at this point.
FWIW a forced refresh bypassing cache does get the current site (control+F5) so it seems like your caching/cdn solution may have issues, or the site meta tags may be screwy :)
I agree with Dave, seems like a cdn issue. When I force refresh on Chrome/Windows 10 the new blogs show. I’m not having the issue on either of my two iPhones, only my Laptop.
For me that happens too on iOS (Safari) and macOS (Safari/Chrome), but with a forced refresh I get the new content. It‘s since about 1.5-2 weeks like this.
I think it should be fixed now…unfortunately, for some people it’s still go the old cached page in there until..well…who knows when (it’s not being cached on our side, but their browser may think it is).
We changed the caching header parameters a tiny bit to try and tweak it (for whether your ISP or browser can or should cache it).
I have no association with but like the idea of a helmet with integrated cameras.

This looks interesting.
On my iPad, the most recent story on the DC homepage is from January 26.
:(
Quick question – what device/browser are you using?
Interestingly I’ve had the same issue but thought it was my ipad browser having a problem.
iPad Air 2. Ios 11.2.2. I see that 11.2.5 is out; I’ll try again after updating.
No change after update.
Same issue as well on Dell laptop running windows 8 in Chrome, Ctrl+F5 gets the most recent story.
Hi Ray,
there is also an update (beta) out for the Fenix, which fixes the Huawei connectivity issue.

The ‘Kent University study’, part of this release of Golden Cheetah, sounds genuinely interesting. link to groups.google.com
I always wonder what an analysis of Strava’s data would show. It would probably answer all the questions on training intensity distribution…
Interesting article on marathon pace estimates:

Most interesting article I have read in a long time. Thanks!
fantastic read! Thank you!
“A good training plan needs sufficient mileage, suitable long runs, and sensible effort levels that target the different energy systems in your body. Pushing yourself as hard as you can is for Hollywood montages, not for real-life training.”
I attempted to email you (ray at dcr) the full text of that werables study that you linked to. If that’s not the correct email address, let me know and I’ll resend it.

It would be cool if you also had links to Shimano and SRAM “e-group” updates. Here are the links:
Shimano: link to goo.gl
SRAM: link to goo.gl
The SRAM one isn’t an update link but rather a email registration l’ink to get notified. it does, however, contain what the current revision number is.
Because you don’t have enough to keep up on :)
In that wearables study they wore three devices per wrist (randomised positions across subjects to avoid bias), yet ‘placement followed the manufacture’s (sic) guidelines’, which seems unlikely…
This is from the past but I am not sure you have seen this:

It’s from the CBC show Baroness von Sketch.
This should be a working download link. Sorry for the sketchy host, only one I could find in a few minutes.

It really is impressive to see how many things Golden Cheetah adds
