Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 In-Depth Review: The Priciest Yet?

YouTube video

Amazfit has released its latest watch, the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2, which is basically a bigger and more battery-laden version of the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro released last fall. They also swapped out the flashlight’s secondary call for green LED instead of a red LED. Further, Amazfit has added some new software features, such as a ClimbPro-like mode and improved map details layers. Oh, and again, lots of battery improvement tweaks. Seriously, the tagline for this watch should just be ‘The big and the battery’.

As always with Amazfit, the end result tends to be a mix of ‘Hot dang, well done on hardware’ with ‘Sigh, these new features don’t actually work’. And to save you some time, that’s again the case here. Nonetheless, I’ve been putting it through its paces across runs, rides, and more – all to find out where these limits exist, so you can make the decisions you need to make.

Now, at the moment, I’m still finalizing my written review, though my video review is already up (above). As always, these two are basically twins of each other, I’ve just gotta finish doing all the tappity-tap of the written side. This post will magically update to that full written review here shortly. But I figured I’d get you the video for now.

Above is the video, and below are all the YouTube chapters for each section:

With that – thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. The watch looks a bit too rustic for my taste; it wouldn’t be a 24/7 watch for me. The dimensions are about the same as the F8’s 51mm size, but somehow it’s a brutal look (which was probably Amazfit’s intention).

I guess the number of comments here is not helping with your motivation to finish the written version…
I am not a YouTube guy though and did not check the number of views it got…

    • Yeah, some Amazfit products do OK, but most don’t (even when I do full written reviews).

They can do better on YouTube, but even those numbers are a bit skewed if you look around. Some reviewers will let Amazfit ‘boost’ their YouTube videos by running it as ads. This massively skews the view counts (by hundreds of thousands of views), to make it appear as though the video is being watched heavily, when in reality it’s just YouTube serving up the first portion as an ad to someone.

The creator benefits because they get substantial revenue, and Amazfit makes the videos look really popular (in comparison to competitors). In reality, it’s all just marketing.

Here’s how that YouTube program works: link to support.google.com

And how this works for Amazfit specifically: link to adstransparency.google.com

Note that I don’t permit any companies to use my videos as ads in that program. Just seems scammy to me, especially since none of them disclose it. Basically, it’s why some creators can justify spending a bunch of time on a product they know won’t get any actual views on YT, but can make it up in thousands of dollars of ‘paid views’ later on.

I’m assuming it just isn’t finished, but just in case the written version isn’t up yet. Would love to read it…

And at the same time my Garmin Enduro 3 is almost unable to do any route calculation on the watch. After calculating for minutes without an end, it prompt errors like “no roads available” or similar… despite being in clear and very well marked areas. Or any time that i take a wrong turn the re-calculation breaks the navigation and everything stops…

Navigation is unusable on Enduro 3 at the moment (latest firmware and latest Topoactive maps)

    • Odd, that issue was fixed in a firmware update last June-July (2025) sometime.

    • Gian D

I have seen many posts on garmin forum about this also in the last couple of firmwares.
Some people claim it goes away with non-garmin maps but at the moment the only feature I got my watch for is useless (my Fenix 7X works better than the Enduro 3)

    • Have you tried either resetting the watch, or re-downloading the maps?

I tested this just the other day without any issues on the Fenix 8-series firmware (which the Enduro 3 shares). No route re-calculation issues.

    • Volker

After resetting the watch it is fine, but the next time the issue may happen again. A reset only solve the issue for awhile, not permanently. Not only on Enduro: link to forums.garmin.com

    • That comment stream was a year ago though, before the issue was solved that summer. I’d be surprised to see it happening again.

    • Volker

Btw: I still see this (irregularly) on my Fenix 8; unfortunately, from my point of view, it is unpredictable (just 2 weeks ago again during a city trip while sightseeing navigation in Hamburg), and therefore I currently only use my iPhone for this. Sorry for OT in this thread!

I think there is more than a problem here… Some routes work and some don’t.
Yesterday I was playing around and got my watch crashing couple of times when trying different calculation options. And when navigation is on and calculation actually works, then the watch shows lags in changing pages or entering menus.
And don’t get me started on ETA… most of the time the ETA is shown as the time to complete the climbpro climb and not the overall finish time.
Navigation appears to be unreliable and buggy as a general experience and I am unfortunately not the only one if you go to Enduro 3 forum.

    Hy Ray,
Thanks for the testing. Always a pleasure to read you.
Amazfit interest me but more in the entry level price watches.
Will you do a review of the Active Max or it is not really worth?
