Thanks, very instructive video, as always.

This may be DJI’s best attempt to active tracking yet, but DJI should be able to do much better. I also wished they were a bit more generous in terms of firmware upgrades for existing drones. Instead, they keep releasing new drones with incremental upgrades, and with artificial market segmentation (like no or crude waypoints in consumer drones).

Of course, without any serious competition (Parrot left the consumer market a while ago already), they have the market virtually entirely to themselves and can do what they want…

Thank you, great video and review (as always). On the mountain bike you use a carabiner? What do you clip it to? I have tried a few rides with the mini 3, but I haven’t found a good spot for the remote yet.

It seems like there might be a finger through the carabiner and then the remote just dangles from the handlebars, on the MTB shots I looked at, e.g.

    • This time on the MTB I used the carabiner, simply because the other mount was on my road bike, and I had cranked the eff out of it down on the handlebars with a screwdriver, and didn’t want to mess with it.

That said, I actually did the review of that mount in an MTB, and it’s the same mount subsystem I use: link to dcrainmaker.com

The only difference now is that I swapped out the clamp in that mount for a metal K-Edge GoPro one, merely to support weight better. The whole thing still makes me uneasy with my phone there, but it does actually hold…I did like an hour 90 minutes MTB with it, and it never fell off. Granted, my terrain wasn’t as hard-rocky as other places, so, your mileage my vary.

For the caribinear approach, I use this silly neck strap (link to amzn.to – there’s lots out there, doesn’t really matter), which includes the O-screw you need. Then, I just snapped in a caribnear that I found in a 20-pack on Amazon for a few bucks. It works surprisingly well with both the DJI RC1 and RC2, and is often what I’ll use when I’m on a bike where I can’t mount the round-handlebar style mount (aero bikes/etc…). But then yup, just a finger through that holding it on. It’ll flop around, but that’s fine, never had any issues there.

  3. Ever, this is the finest review. I believe that all other reviewers would leave out the failures and only highlight how fantastic the drone is. Instead, this is far more subtle; yes, it shows the gorgeous footage, but it also demonstrates its obvious limits.

I personally have mixed feelings about the drone. And yes, whenever I write a review, I emphasize both the pros and cons. I think I will stick to my DJI Air 2S :)

Where is the Test of Hover X1 drone?

    • I’m not opposed to it per se. I think it’s better suited towards walking/running than legit cycling, that said, while the camera snippets I’ve seen aren’t great, they aren’t horrible either.
