Happy Friday…. Errrr Monday!

Welcome to another edition of the DC Rainmaker newsletter. The start of this newsletter was in fact on Friday… then, well the weekend happened, and magically, it’s now Monday. So here we go anyways!

This week, the tables have turned, and I am the one writing to you from 32,000ft! Where am I going? Well I’m finally on my way stateside to go visit family. I had originally planned on making this trip back in March, but that was when my kiddo’s health had other plans and we spent a week in the “ziekenhuis”. Anyways, flights can be rescheduled, and thus here I am up in the clouds with a row to myself, no children in sight, and quite frankly having no idea what to do with myself. So, I broke out the laptop and decided to write to you! So on with it, here’s the latest tech round up from Ray’s corner of the web.

On Friday of the week prior Ray reported there was an announcement of a change up to the IQ2 power meter device that people thought they were getting. IQ2 Power Meter is going from what was a spacer-esq thingy between the crank arm and the pedal, to now… just another pedal based power meter. I am sure this is a bummer for those who have already laid down their hard earned moola as early backers to the project. As the project is already well off of schedule, I would imagine this sets timelines to… well, we should just imagine you should set your sights on something different for Christmas this year.

Next up, Ray did a quickie Sunday post with some “tidbits”. I swear the man just wants to keep my mind on moving back to Canada to have easy access to TIMBITS! Anyways, the tidbits post was a combo of three mini-posts regarding the Polar Vantage V Titan, Suunto Updates, and also Xert enters the IOS platform.

Then everyone’s favorite fun read, the 5 Random Things post. The weekends are never safe from continuous device testing, but with Ray’s family in town, he did seem to slow it down a bit. One thing that was SUPER nice was I sort of took a back seat to parenting that weekend. A rarity… believe me, but a welcome break. Ray took the girls out on the Urban Arrow “bakfiets” with his parents in tow to see the farms and have some famous Dutch Pancakes. Its not that I didn’t want to go, but often if I’m in the picture the girls can be very “mommy mommy” and this way it’s nice for grandparents to get unfettered attention.

Ahhhh, and sneaky sneaky. 4iiii company acquired the company STAC, makers of the quietest trainers on the market. I think this is going to be super interesting to see where this goes. Remember that I am a separate mind from Ray, and I don’t get any say in the in-depth reviews/his opinions, so I hope I don’t get in too much trouble saying this. But I have a big heart for the 4iiii company. They started out small with a super cool idea of the sunglass attachment heads up display for running and cycling (8 year old post here!), while it didn’t pan out they kept it cookin’ with new innovations. And… ahem… cough… they are a Canadian based company, so I can’t help but to bleed maple syrup. Congrats to them, now don’t disappoint us!

Zwift dropped a new course for us to play on. The new Giro d’Italia time trial 8km course went live on Saturday past. This course will eventually get shelfed as an “event only” course. Maybe someone reading can school me in marketing strategy on this one… but, ummm I don’t really follow how a company can justify that level of product development for what I’m sure is thousands of dev hours on a new course like that and then within a week or so pull the course? Anyways, if it’s of any interest to you, and you still haven’t taken on the 8km beast, I’d call in sick asap and get your Zwift on, course won’t be up much longer.

Finally, you have two weeks that I have missed of “Week in Reviews”, May 6th here and todays, May 13th here.

And that’s it for the tech talk in text. Moving on, if you love fabulous world of Audio-Visual, this section is for you!

In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl

Hey there! Welcome to the Girl’s zone! I will be honest, there wasn’t a whole lotta deep thinking happening around here the last few days. And that was just the plan!

As mentioned above, I did hop on a plane (sans kiddos) and fly to Virginia! Gasp! On Mother’s Day weekend?!?! Yes, yes I did! Guess what, sometimes mom’s just need to get away. Without the husbands and without the tiny hoomans. Though I would have happily taken Lucy with me, but my sister is currently renting in a strict “no pets” house, and I didn’t want to upset any apple carts!

So yes, I hopped across the pond to come see my sister, brother in law, and my niece! I have (sadly) only had one other opportunity to meet my niece, and it was on a giant family beach vacation, so one on one time with her was more than limited. Juggling my own kids, naps, bottles, beach time, time zone changes, paired with quality time spent with other family members… yeah, you get it. I didn’t get to see much of her in her own element. So I came to get some me time with my other better half, and my niece.

I’ll head back to Amsterdam mid-week, back to the daily grind of the DCR Cave, and promise to knock out a Thursday errrrr maybe Friday Newsletter again. As I have been told, this will be yet again another busy week on the website for Ray!

Never a dull moment! So I’ll grace you with a more thought through section when I’m back on the European continent!

As always, thanks for reading. Stay tuned for more
