DC Rainmaker

Something look funny? Read this newsletter online!

Bonjour!

This is The Girl, writing to you for another edition of the DC Rainmaker weekly newsletter. This week’s edition is coming to you from somewhere between Paris and Amsterdam, as we make our way home on the Thalys train.

The first half of the newsletter will be featuring all the sports tech gibberish Ray has published over the last week. Then I invite you to join me below the fold for the “In Depth Thoughts of The Girl”, where I’ll give up the goods on what’s new in the Maker fam!

If you are a new to the DCR newsletter, you can catch up with the newsletter archives here

Onwards!

Fresh off the press (and holding up my newsletter publish button…), the Suunto 9 Multisport GPS Watch hands-on post. It’s so new I haven’t read it yet! Check it out for yourself.

Then the man also managed to crank out his 5 Random Things post. To which I would have preferred to do all of those things over the stretch of a month’s time, but you know how we Makers do things…

Not to be over looked is the SIGMA ROX 12.0 Sport Cycling GPS head unit In-Depth Review. My apologies as I haven’t read that post yet either! Ooops sorry boss! All I know is that Ray was impressed by the gadget, so, that’s a plus?

Last week, you could have had a YouTube preview on the new STAC Zero trainer. A video which almost caused an epic fight in the Maker household… but if you watch it to the end you’ll know why I didn’t divorce the man. And now, you can check out the print version of the  “Hands-on STAC Zero Halcyon Smart (Totally Silent) Trainer”post.

Following that, there is a fairly boring explanation of all the updates and upgrades to the Zwift world. This one is focused on using the new Zwift Training Platform.

As always, Ray needs to keep up the charade of actually working by posting his “Week in Review post”, when in fact he’s just cruising the web, and navigating in every direction but in the direction of the diaper changing table…

Finally, if you are of the more audio visual mind frame, pop over to Ray’s You Tube Channel. He convinced me he “haddddd to have a green screen” about a month ago, and to be fair he’s been giving that thing a run for it’s money. Lots of new videos to be seen there!

I think that is it for the blog re-cap. Now for the more fun spirited portion of the newsletter, head down to “below the fold” for the In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl. A.K.A. Me!

In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl

Bonjour Bonjour!

Well, I’m still on the Thalys train tapping away. Ray and I are heading back to Amsterdam from what can only be described as an epic weekend!

I’m finally starting to feel “good” about leaving the kiddos behind for a few days here and there. I’m sure every parent reading this knows how in the early years it can be so hard to let go of the reins a little. BUT, Ray works like a machine on non-stop, so we have to take the moments when we can to physically escape. This weekend I gave in, and it was one of those moments in life we said, “yeeeessss” to having some fun like the good old days!

I’ll post a few pics, but I don’t want over shadow Ray’s 5 Random Things post… With all our friends still residing in Paris, it was a strange feeling, like coming home again. We hit up some old watering grounds, like friend’s apartments, restaurants, and our favorite event of the year: Diner en Blanc Paris 2018!

Other important things of note from this weekend was getting to hit up an old favorite running route. My return to running since injury during the Boston Marathon four years ago has been a slow and broken process. One that many of you have been asking about. I won’t delve into that today, but getting a kid free morning to run Luxembourg Gardens in Paris is enough to drag any old shoe out of the closet… aka me! The run felt so good and so miserable at the same time; I can understand how people who have never run can hate it. So, I’ve decided to post here a picture during my run with hopes that next week when I make the newsletter I’ll have another running photo to follow up with. Then, week after week maybe I can get my life together and have running “proof” for each newsletter. What do you think, are you willing to become my running accountability people?!?!  I mean it worked for the newsletter, we are on week 6 straight now!

I’ve gotta shutter-up now. Bags to pack and places to go! More on that next time!

Au revoir,

~The Girl.
