Something look funny? Read this newsletter online!

Good afternoon newsletter friends!

December is here and as per usual, I’m looking around to find where November (cough October) went. With very full schedules, it’s just amazing how quickly the time passes. But to be honest, it’s been all good things as of late, so there are no complaints here.

Now, if you’re new to this newsletter feed, welcome! If you have some extra reading time, you can always check out the Newsletter Archives and catch up on what stories have been told in the past!

In continuing my efforts of getting everyone hooked on watching the Quarantine Corner, I’ll have you know, on the last episode I correctly called the winner AND the score of the World Cup game USA vs Netherlands days before they played. So, you never know what’s going to happen on the QC or where it’s going to take place. But it’s always a good time!

So how do you get access to this light-hearted tech-savvy bi-weekly video recording? The Quarantine Corner is only available to those who are a DCR Supporter. So treat yourself this holiday season, or BETTER idea, and give it as a gift to your favorite training buddy!

Alright, enough of that. What’s to come with today’s newsletter? As always, I’ll give you the latest update of what’s been happening on the website and YouTube, then keep scrolling to the below-the-fold where you’ll find In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl (aka me!).

The Website

So, tech-wise let’s do this.

Since the last newsletter, Ray and I took a daytime road trip to Belgium. This is the home of the Nemo33 indoor dive center. As you might recall Ray did pressure chamber testing on the Apple Watch Ultra back in September. But now, the Oceanic+ App is out, we decided to take it for a test drive! Well…Ray did. He just needed a dive buddy for safety protocol in the pool (and he also needed my hair tie mid-dive!), so I got the day off and another dive under my belt. Woot! Check out the Diving with the Apple Watch Ultra & Oceanic+ App: Everything You Need to Know .

Then you have a piece on the theatrics of the Wahoo lawsuits. For me, the best part of the post is all in the conversation in the comments!

If you can think back to this past spring, you might remember there was quite the upheaval with the Hammerhead-Shimano (lack of) integration, it seems you now have a workaround for those that want Di2 shifting data on the Karoo again!

Continuing on the theme of “shaking my head” and other bad ideas, a Zwift racer decided he was more deserving of a big W than others in his field. This guy, pulled out such phenomenal wattages at the end of his race to bridge the gap to an earlier breakaway duo that commentators were saying:

He took on with an amazing effort, something we’ve almost never seen before”…“that is one of the best efforts, I literally have ever seen for a catch on Zwift, to go flying right on by, Eddy Hoole just did what I thought was absolutely impossible”.

Well, I’d say, if it looks dirty and it smells dirty… it’s not clean. Throw this guy out! Another time-worthy comment section, especially the alternate title contest, with some amazing options.

Not to be missed is the 4th Annual “Sportswatch Year in Review” with Des from DesFit. He and Ray get deep into the comparisons and details of what this year had to offer. These two guys obviously like what they do, as they managed non-stop banter on some 30-odd watches, all with 2022 vintages.

Last but certainly not least is the DJI Mini 3 In-Depth Review. Now, if you’re in the camp of “I don’t fly drones”, that’s fine, BUT let me tell you, this video has hands-down Ray’s BEST videography ever. EVER. EVER EVER. Honestly, some of it was just luck of what was going on that day a the beach and the windmills, but this is worth your time. I’m expecting a call from the Netherlands tourism board any day now!

The very very very last post I should mention is the Sport’s Tech Deals Page. If you’re still poking around for a last-minute gift for you or your significant other (and you already bought them a subscription to the Quarantine Corner) then you can find any lasting deals there!

In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl

Hey, thanks for scrollin’ down to the very non-tech side of the newsletter! Well, I’ve had this Word doc open for about 3 days now, and I will be honest, I’m always insecure about what to write!

I had hoped to write a fun message about the DCR Open House from last weekend, but the night went in a blink and I have exactly 5 pictures. All were taken from the stairs looking over the crowd while Ray and Des were taking Q&A. We had a ton of fun, and I had a blast working the Gondola Bar which is my usual outpost! The perks of working the bar are I get to at least say “Hi!” or “What can I get ya?” to everyone! Next time though, even though Ray and I have more camera gear than we know what to do with, we need to hire a photographer for the event. Just so we can have some proof these events really happened!

Keep an eye out though. Ray will be cobbling a post together in the next day or so! Maybe even today.

We do have more pics from the fun run that morning! Awesome group of runners. We just had an easy 10km around the city, taking in Vondelpark, the Rijksmuseum, and of course, we snuck in a lap around the Olympic Stadium track. Not to be left out, a HUGE thank you to the All4Running running store that hosted us again this year, providing bag drop and tech shirts for all runners and a goodie bag to take home! Thank you again to them, and if anyone is in the Amsterdam area looking for a great running shop, check them out. They even have an inside track for run analysis!

Otherwise, some of you have asked what’s the latest on the Bobbie-Runs front. Well, I’m happy to tell you I’m back in the grind of things. I have my Coach Brad Williams from KIS coaching on my side, and we are going to make an ambitious spring and summer out of it.

First up, I’m starting the New Year in Bermuda! Yep, you read that right. But this actually has a bit of a fun idea behind it. My bestie from college soccer, we were always running buddies, no matter how stressed our season got, or our studies were, if we needed a run to clear our brains, we always ran together! We’ve taken a hit on our running shenanigans since we’ve been in Europe for 10 years now. BUT, my friend asked if I would run the Bermuda Triangle Running Challenge with her, and how could I say no? So, the challenge consists of a Friday night 1-mile warm-up. Saturday is a 10km race, and Sunday is a half-marathon. Wowzers.

Now, before you all start making bets on finishing times, we are just doing this for funzies! So I’m using it as a good start-of-the-year mileage builder. But I’m excited to start off the New Year with a race challenge and then keep chipping away at the rest of the winter and spring until it feels warm enough to race again. Because if you know me, you know I’m going to perform best while charging my built-in solar panels. Me and cold don’t get along!

So that’s it. I’ve told you my New Year’s training plans, now you tell me yours!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, and Festivus Holiday of every sort, and a very very Happy New Year! I miiiight squeeze a pre-New Year’s Newsletter in, but just in case! Safe celebrating, until next time,

Bobbie
