JUMP TO:

Week in Review–May 22nd, 2011

WeekInReviewLogo_thumb1_thumb_thumb_[3]

I’ve long since wondered what to do with all the random tidbits of things I collect each week – or the little thoughts that don’t quite make for a full post.  But I finally came up with a solution: The Week in Review Post.  This takes the place of my Weekly Mailbag – which is over on Slowtwitch.  These are just quick snippets of things that I’ve found interesting.  Nice and easy weekend reading.  Plus, a recap of my Weekly Mailbag post a well.

So with that, let’s get into the action!

Weekly Mailbag over at Slowtwitch.com:
This week I cover the following topics over at Slowtwitch as part of the mailbag series:

1) Comparing Garmin GTU-10 vs Spot Tracker
2) Creating CompuTrainer courses from GPS files
3) Heart Rate Strap Combo Platters

You can read all my past weekly mailbags at Slowtwitch here.  Or the pre-Slowtwitch days here.

Posts this past week:
A wide variety of posts this week covering quite a range of stuff, here’s what made the page:

Sunday: Week in Review- May 15th, 2011
Monday: My Long Noodles, Long Trainers and Long Swims
Tuesday: Training and scheduling for a long season
Wednesday: A look at CompuTrainer ANT+ integration via ctANT+
Thursday: The build- Looking at my mileage progression
Friday: One simple reason why I love watching pro cycling

Stuff that I found interesting around the interwebs:
Somehow the Internet was full of interesting stuff this week. So a big pile of awesomeness for you to sift through:

#1) Ever build a bike out of Lego’s?  No, not Eggo Waffles, Lego’s!  Hmm…this has me hungry for waffles now…

#2) More than you ever wanted to know about how Shimano’s DI2 shifting batteries die.  Actually a really interesting look at it, especially if you’re considering the technology.

#3) The UCI Suspicion Score: A more in depth look at the UCI doping ranking system that I talked about last week.  On the same note, ensure you don’t miss 60 minutes Sunday night either for more of the same.

#4) A short little story about two Kona-qualified athletes asking their coach to do Ironman Texas on a whim a few weeks again.  His answer might surprise you.

#5) Lots of great & amazing Giro Photos: I love the CyclingTips blog, and over the past 14 days they’ve put together an incredible array of Giro photos.  Definitely start here, and work your way through other related posts.

#6) Funny little video from Simon Whitfield using a Lemond Trainer to inflate a bouncy castle.  Simply awesome.  Which reminds me, I need to poke the Lemond guys and figure out what happened to that demo trainer.

Random Notes:

A few folks have asked via e-mail, Twitter or on other posts what the story is with the Polar RCX5 review.  At the moment I’m in a bit of a holding pattern as the beta unit I have has a minor software bug preventing it from being able to upload to Polar’s site.  As a result, I can’t get any of my goodness off of the watch.  I have been using it quite a bit though and do enjoy it.  Hopefully around the first week of June I’ll be on a production unit and can get everything uploaded and complete a full review.

Hope everyone’s enjoying their weekend!  Especially since we survived past May 21st…Wooohooo!
