Fitbit One: The Bluetooth Smart-enabled Fitbit

This is the latest Fitbit to be released.  The Fitbit One is a bit more featured than the recently released Fitbit Zip.  Additionally, unlike previous Fitbits before the Zip, it now includes Bluetooth Smart to connect to smartphone directly for uploading.  Though, you can also see the little Bluetooth Smart USB stick that’s included as well for PC uploads.  The prime difference between the Zip and the One is that the One includes sleep monitoring, stair climbing, and a vibration alarm.

I bought one of these last Thursday and am very interested to see your detailed review. My three initial impressions are:
    (1) it’s fun as long as you use it to do more than the day before, rather than take any notice of the actual metrics (seems to read a little high).
    (2) The sleep functionality is a gimmick that I’ve used twice and won’t bother with again.
    (3) there are just too many add-ons with the dongle for USB-charging, dongle for PC-synching, silicon clip case, wrist band etc.
    (4) whereas the PC synching is a little painful with the extra dongle, the iPad bluetooth synching is fantastic – it’s almost enough to convince me to upgrade my iPhone (whereas I had been considering defecting to another OS).

I had planned to get the Aria scales at the same time, but the store had them alongside the generic non-wifi scales and I found it very hard to justify an extra $100 for wifi connectivity and dodgy bodyfat calculations. I bought a $30 digital scale and it takes 2 seconds to enter the weight into the app myself.

I’ve bought my wife a Fitbit One to replace the Ultra she lost. I’m also getting her a HRM to go with it – either the Polar H7 or Wahoo Blue. I’m assuming the HRM will pair with the Fitbit iPhone app but I’ve not been able to find any definitive information to confirm this. Do you know if this is the case? Or is there some other way to sync HR data to a Fitbit account? Thanks.

I just tried it. The FitBit iPhone app – at least as far as I can tell – has no method of pairing to any HR strap. Really nothing except the FitBit shows up on it. 🙁

Hi Ray. Did the Fitbit One ever make it into a review? I noticed a few comments about it in the Fitbit Zip review, but that’s all I found.

I’m shopping at the lowest end of the activity tracking spectrum, and trying to decide between Fitbit Zip and Fitbit One, and would like to understand the buzz alarm and sleep tracking functionality offered on the One.

I might have to (**gasp**) go to the actual product documentation to learn about the product. 😉
