Week in Review–February 5th, 2012

WeekInReviewLogo_thumb4_thumb_thumb_The Week in Review is a collection of both all the goodness I’ve written during the past week around the internet, as well as a small pile of links I found interesting – generally endurance sports related. I’ve often wondered what to do with all of the coolness that people write, and while I share a lot of it on Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus, this is a better forum for sending it on to y’all. Most times these different streams don’t overlap, so be on the lookout at all these places for good stuff!

So with that, let’s get into the action!

DCRainmaker.com posts this past week:
Here’s all the goodness that ended up on the main page of DCRainmaker.com this week:

Saturday: Week in Review–January 29th, 2012
Monday: A bit more than a weekend in Seattle
Tuesday: What I wear- Cold weather running
Thursday: My 2012 CES Session at the Digital Health Summit
Friday: Making it all fit- A run during an Auckland layover

Stuff that I found interesting around the interwebs:
Here’s a not-so-small smattering of all the random things that I stumbled on while doing my civic duty to find the end of the Internet:

1) Really cool post with tons of photos from World Bicycle Relief: This comes from their delivery of a 1,000 bikes to kids in Africa.  Great stuff (and I cause I happily donate to each year).

2) Climbing to the top of Mt. Kilamanjaro…barefoot: Ok, there has to be a line drawn somewhere on acceptable activities to complete while barefoot…I believe that line would was probably crossed here.  That said, great post, as always from these guys.

3) Are Lance Armstrong’s woes really over? Maybe…maybe not: A good article outlining in excruciating detail what the future of legal matters related to the dropped doping case might look like for Lance.

4) SRAM introduces new Quarq/SRAM Red, does Left/Right Power: I’m pretty excited about this…look for it, and everything else Red…to appear in a DCRainmaker In Depth Review post in the very near future.  It’s quickly becoming a power meter madhouse around these parts…

5) Apple’s SIRI potentially your new trainer?  If you’ve got two minutes, you’ll probably enjoy this.  If you don’t have two minutes – come back later and watch it.  Funny stuff.

6) 7 Companies with unique health insurance benefits: I randomly stumbled onto this – and thought it was interesting since many of the companies were in the tech world.  I think you’ll continue to see more and more companies partnering with health/fitness device companies to provide incentive based tracking of workouts.  It’s also one area that all of the ‘legacy’ device manufactures (Garmin, Timex, Suunto, and to a lesser degree Polar) have largely woefully ignored – instead letting in all the new kids to take this turf (FitBit and cousins).

7) Another reason why I enjoy reading Fat Cyclist – UCI Letters: If you’re not a Fat Cyclist fan, it’s these sort of posts that will make you one.  Funny stuff, as always.

8) Does your Garmin have bling? No, really, does it literally have bling attached to it?  Like sparkly diamonds and other magical rocks?  Well, this person’s does.  And, I’ve gotta say…it certainly does make it unique (No, dear, you may not – don’t even think about it…again.).

9) New High Performance grants in triathlon – A Primer: A good look at understanding how exactly the new grants will work with respect to high performance athletes within USAT.

10) Exercise shirt keeps track of…well…your exercise: Interesting concept.  I except to see tons more integration on the clothing front over the next 12-18 months.  In fact…I might just be testing something like that myself right now…

Random Stuff:

If you’re looking for a fun sneak peek at what might be coming on Monday and throughout the rest of the week…wander over to a few photos that I posted on the DCRainmaker Facebook page (no login required).  I spent 4 hours photographing, installing, configuring and doing related non-writing tasks on Saturday – all spent on a stack of new products.  Good times.

Have a great remainder of your weekend!
